Chinese opera is celebrating its 220th anniversary this year, nobody seems to notice or care. Even many performers acknowledge that Beijing opera is facing a crisis, and that young people would much rather see a Western movie than watching Chinese Opera that they cannot understand. While the audiences and the number of troupes are dwindling gradually, some opera companies and traditional art organizations are also performing some modern works but stick to traditional themes and setting. Inspired by the idea of bringing the old tradition back to the modern world, the Peking Opera website involves innovation that integrate traditional arts and modern design that introduces Chinese Opera to the young generation.
